A Ship Channel Logistics Guy Who Got Tired of Hourly Games

Dustin Wells grew up east of Houston and spent his early career running warehouse and freight logistics along the Houston Ship Channel, loading, routing, and babysitting other people’s schedules. He saw how moving companies in this metro treated customers: a low hourly rate to win the booking, then a slow crew and a fat final bill. In 2012 he bought a truck, hired guys he trusted, and started Space City Movers in Dayton on a simple promise. One flat price, told to you straight, held to the dollar.

Who You Get When You Call

We’re 17 people total, with 13 movers on the trucks. Brooke Hammond runs the office, scheduling, certificates of insurance for the apartment towers and plants, and billing. Travis Lange dispatches the daily truck board and keeps crews routed around I-10, the Grand Parkway, and Beltway 8 traffic. On the trucks you’ll meet our crew chiefs: Reggie Dunn leads our piano and specialty work, Jorge Salas runs the long-haul jobs out of state, and Shawn Kowalski handles the high-rises and the brutal stair carries downtown and in Kingwood’s two-story villages. Same faces on your stuff at both ends.

Licensed, Insured, and Local

Space City Movers holds Texas TxDMV household-goods registration and USDOT/MC authority for interstate moves. We carry our own insurance, we own our trucks, and we never hand your move off to day labor or some carrier you’ve never spoken to. When you book us, our crew shows up. That matters in a metro this big, where plenty of outfits are just phone numbers passing your job along.

Why Dayton, Why Greater Houston

Being based in Dayton puts us right on US-90 with quick access to I-10 east toward Baytown and Beaumont and a straight shot down into Houston and Galveston. We know the rural Liberty County roads, the master-planned NE suburbs, the energy-corridor plant gates, and the downtown loading docks. We’ve moved families through hurricane evacuations and refinery transfers and first homes in Mont Belvieu. After more than a decade, that local knowledge is the difference between a smooth day and a long one.

“I wanted to give Greater Houston an honest flat-rate crew instead of an hourly clock that keeps running”

Grew up east of Houston. Dustin still has a hand in every job, so the number you are quoted holds and the crew on your driveway is one Space City Movers hired, trained, and put in uniform from day one.

02 Why us

The name on the door of the truck is the same name at the bottom of your contract

Book Space City Movers and the truck rolling up your driveway is ours, the contract is ours, and the uniformed crew walking your sofa out through the Gulf heat is on our Greater Houston payroll — your move never gets sold off. A broker works the other way around: they auction your job to whoever bids lowest that week, collect their cut, and step out of it for good.

Space City Movers
  • Our trucks, our fleet, and the full-time background-checked movers riding in them are on our own payroll — we never fill out a crew with day labor pulled off a listing site
  • The figure we write down is the figure you pay — set, signed, and accurate to the dollar before the first box gets lifted
  • The same crew end to end, from the first piece out the old door to the last one set down at the new place
  • Texas (TxDMV) household-goods registration, USDOT/MC authority for interstate runs, and every job carried on full insurance with up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage
  • One point of contact at our Dayton office, with you from that first call straight through to the last box carried inside
What a broker does
  • Farms your move out to whatever crew undercuts the rest in the week you happened to call
  • Lets the total drift up once the truck shows, stacked with line items nobody mentioned the day you signed
  • Sends strangers you have never spoken to through your front door, putting your whole household in the hands of a crew you can't vouch for
  • Leaves it a guess whose insurer covers it the day a TV corner catches a doorframe
  • Parks a call center between you and whoever finally shows up to load, so one simple question turns into a runaround

Across Dayton and the wider Houston metro, Space City Movers earns the rebooking for a reason.

Ask for a free estimate, meet the crew face to face, and watch how flat-rate pricing runs at an owner-run shop — straight numbers, nothing slipped past you.
