Where Greater Houston checks out a mover first

01 Overview

Houston is Space City itself — the name NASA earned for the place, and the home our whole crew is built around. It’s also the most varied move in the metro: downtown high-rises and the loft towers, the Heights with its pier-and-beam bungalows, Montrose townhomes packed onto skinny lots, and brick two-stories spreading out past the Loop. No two Houston moves look alike, and Space City Movers handles all of them — we drive in from Dayton on US-90 and I-10, and the city is the heart of our service area.

Setting up a move in this stretch of Greater Houston? Dayton, TX movers is on these subdivisions, Ship Channel streets, and master-planned neighborhoods most weeks.

High-rises, townhomes, and inner-loop bungalows

A downtown or Montrose tower move is its own discipline: building COI, freight-elevator reservation, loading-dock window, the works. Shawn runs our high-rise crew and coordinates all of it with the property manager before move day, so we’re not stuck circling for a loading zone or hijacking the passenger elevator. Skinny-lot townhomes get the same forethought — three or four floors of stairs, tight builder-grade staircases, and street-only parking, all planned before we lift a box.

The Heights and the older inner loop

Closer in, the housing flips entirely — narrow lots, original hardwood, porch steps, and parking you have to fight for. Our crew has loaded these streets for years and treats the old homes accordingly:

  • Parking and carry path scoped before the truck arrives
  • Floor runners and railing pads on original floors and stairs
  • Freight-elevator and dock windows booked ahead for towers
  • Furniture disassembled and labeled for tight stairwells
  • Everything wrapped against the Gulf humidity
  • A two-end walkthrough so the inventory matches

Traffic, bayous, and a flat quote

Two things define a Houston move beyond the house itself: the traffic and the water. We plan loads around rush hour on the Loop and Beltway, and through hurricane season we start at dawn and keep an eye on the bayous, because the inner loop floods fast in a hard rain — and if a real flood event is coming, we’ll move your date and carry your deposit over rather than risk your things. Through all of it the price stays flat: one number up front, held with a $105 deposit, no hourly meter ticking in traffic. Licensed Texas TxDMV and USDOT/MC, our own trucks, the same crew both ends.

We move Houston

Our crews run Houston week in and week out, so the gated entrances, the long driveways, the high-rise docks, and any elevator reservation are second nature well before the truck pulls up. What we quote is a single flat rate, broken out line by line — no surprise charges tucked in the fine print waiting to trip you up later.

02 Why us

The name on the door of the truck is the same name at the bottom of your contract

Book Space City Movers and the truck rolling up your driveway is ours, the contract is ours, and the uniformed crew walking your sofa out through the Gulf heat is on our Greater Houston payroll — your move never gets sold off. A broker works the other way around: they auction your job to whoever bids lowest that week, collect their cut, and step out of it for good.

Space City Movers
  • Our trucks, our fleet, and the full-time background-checked movers riding in them are on our own payroll — we never fill out a crew with day labor pulled off a listing site
  • The figure we write down is the figure you pay — set, signed, and accurate to the dollar before the first box gets lifted
  • The same crew end to end, from the first piece out the old door to the last one set down at the new place
  • Texas (TxDMV) household-goods registration, USDOT/MC authority for interstate runs, and every job carried on full insurance with up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage
  • One point of contact at our Dayton office, with you from that first call straight through to the last box carried inside
What a broker does
  • Farms your move out to whatever crew undercuts the rest in the week you happened to call
  • Lets the total drift up once the truck shows, stacked with line items nobody mentioned the day you signed
  • Sends strangers you have never spoken to through your front door, putting your whole household in the hands of a crew you can't vouch for
  • Leaves it a guess whose insurer covers it the day a TV corner catches a doorframe
  • Parks a call center between you and whoever finally shows up to load, so one simple question turns into a runaround

What Houston movers ask us

Can you handle a high-rise or mid-rise condo move downtown or in Montrose?
Yes — Shawn leads our high-rise and stairs crew, and Houston towers are routine for us. We coordinate the building's certificate of insurance, freight-elevator reservation, and loading-dock window with the property manager ahead of time, then run a tight, padded move through the service elevator so we're not fighting for the lobby or the loading zone.
My place is a Heights bungalow with a tight lot and street parking only — workable?
Very. The Heights and the older inner-loop streets give us narrow lots, pier-and-beam bungalows, and street-only parking, and we plan for all of it. We scope parking, protect the longer carry, and handle porch steps and original floors with care. We've loaded these blocks for years.
Houston traffic and flooding are real — how do you keep a move on schedule?
By planning around both. We avoid loading into rush hour on the Beltway and the Loop, and during hurricane season we start at dawn and watch the bayous, since the inner loop floods fast in a hard rain. If a genuine flood event is coming we'll move your date rather than risk your belongings, and your deposit carries over.
