Chicago is our long run straight up the middle of the country, about 1,085 miles and the better part of two days’ driving from the Houston metro. We follow I-45 north before swinging onto I-55 toward the Midwest. It is a heavily traveled corporate and family lane, and we run it for job transfers, finance and trade professionals, and people moving between two huge urban markets.
Moving out of state? Houston movers keeps your shipment with one Space City crew from the Houston curb to the new front door, on a flat price set in writing.
I-45 north, then I-55 to the Midwest
From Dayton we take I-45 up out of Texas, connect to I-55 through the Ozarks and across the prairie, and run it into the Chicago metro. It is a multi-day haul, so our crew loads in the Houston area, drives the distance, and delivers a day or two later. One truck, one crew, no transfer to a warehouse or a second team along the way.
Who moves to Chicago
- Corporate and finance transfers between Houston and the Loop
- Trade, commodities, and logistics professionals heading north
- Families relocating for jobs, universities, or Midwest relatives
- Buyers trading Gulf Coast sprawl for transit-friendly city living
What changes in the Midwest
This is a hard turn in climate. You leave humid heat and hurricane season for real winters with snow, ice, and biting cold off the lake. Chicago housing brings dense city realities we rarely face in the Houston suburbs: high-rise condos, three-flat walk-ups, basements, and tight street parking that demands elevator bookings and certificates of insurance. Our crew chiefs handle the COIs, elevator reservations, and carry planning before delivery day.
How we handle the haul
We load at dawn, pad and shrink-wrap every piece, build a full inventory, and keep our own uniformed crew and truck on the job from Texas to Illinois. Space City Movers carries its own cargo insurance, up to $1,000,000 per shipment, and holds Texas TxDMV registration plus USDOT and MC authority. We run our own fleet across state lines, not a broker or carrier network.
What the flat rate includes
- A single binding price after the inventory, no hourly meter
- Full padding, wrapping, and furniture disassembly and reassembly
- Loading, the multi-day 1,085-mile haul, and unloading by one crew
- High-rise COIs and elevator coordination handled by our office

How this run goes · ~1085 mi
Starting in Greater Houston, one crew and one truck carry the whole haul, tracked door to door on a single binding flat rate. The delivery date we promise is the date it lands — your load stays with that one crew start to finish, never handed off, and you pay the figure we wrote down, no other.
