01 Overview

Senior and Retiree Moves, at Your Pace

Moving out of a home you’ve lived in for decades is not the same as moving out of a starter apartment, and Space City Movers treats it with the care it deserves. We help Greater Houston seniors and retirees leave longtime houses around Dayton, Kingwood, Atascocita and beyond — downsizing into something smaller, joining family, or settling into a retirement community. Our own crew does the work, gently and without a clock-watching rush, and you get a flat price up front so the budget never becomes a worry.

From Baytown to Kingwood, our Dayton crew turns the whole job into one flat figure before move day and stands behind it, with nothing extra waiting at the end.

Downsizing Without the Overwhelm

The hardest part is rarely the lifting — it’s deciding what comes along after forty years in one place. We work at the pace you set, helping sort the keep pile from what’s being donated and what’s being handed down to children and grandchildren. We only pack and load what you decide is coming, so you’re not paying to move things you don’t want and not losing things you do. Heirloom furniture, china and the irreplaceable pieces get extra attention.

We Handle the Community Logistics

Retirement communities and senior living campuses come with rules — certificates of insurance, assigned elevators, narrow move-in windows. Brooke Hammond in our office deals with the community’s management directly so the COI, the elevator and the time slot are all squared away before the truck arrives. And because so many Houston-area homes are single-story slabs or raised against flooding, we plan the carry for comfort and safety, not speed.

A Price You Can Count On

Fixed incomes need fixed numbers. We set a flat written price before move day so there’s no meter and no surprise at the end — you know the total when you book, and the $105 deposit credits straight to it. For smaller downsizing moves we can quote hourly instead, two movers and a truck at $185 an hour or three at $255, whichever honestly costs less. Belongings ride covered at the 60-cents-per-pound released-value standard, with full-value protection optional and up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage per shipment.

  • Unhurried moves for seniors leaving longtime homes
  • Hands-on downsizing — keep, donate and pass-along, your call
  • COIs, elevators and move windows handled with senior communities

How we land on the price

It begins with a short walkthrough or video survey, and off your actual inventory we set one flat Greater Houston rate — no hourly meter hiding anywhere inside it. Whatever that quote reads is the whole price, with nothing tacked on once the truck is loaded or a storm slides in off the Gulf and shifts the date.

02 How we protect your move

We treat your things the way we'd want ours treated

Every truck pulls out loaded with pads, shrink film, and floor runners — ready to blanket furniture, keep tile and hardwood clean through a muddy summer downpour, and cushion the breakables, whether it's a brick ranch on slab out in Liberty County, an Atascocita home on Lake Houston, or a high-rise condo downtown with a freight elevator to reserve.

Quilted pads

Dressers, dining tables, and headboards get blanketed right where they sit, padding on long before anything rolls toward the door.

Stretch film

Drawers stay shut and cushions stay clean — wrapped tight so road grime and a damp, humid walk to the truck never reach the fabric.

Floor & doorway guards

Runners rolled out, rails wrapped, jambs padded — first thing we do at both homes, so floors and corners look untouched after the last trip out.

Built-to-fit crating

Right in the room, before anything fragile leaves it, we measure a mirror, glass tabletop, framed canvas, or flat screen corner to corner and build the crate around it for a snug, exact fit.

Break-down & rebuild

Bed frames, dining tables, and sectionals come apart to ride safe, and once they're through the new door our crew puts every one back together.

Straps, dollies & gear

A third-floor walk-up downtown, a long load-out across a flooded yard, or the single heaviest piece in the house — each calls up the right tie-downs and rigging off our truck, and none of it gets left behind.

03 Why us

The name on the door of the truck is the same name at the bottom of your contract

Book Space City Movers and the truck rolling up your driveway is ours, the contract is ours, and the uniformed crew walking your sofa out through the Gulf heat is on our Greater Houston payroll — your move never gets sold off. A broker works the other way around: they auction your job to whoever bids lowest that week, collect their cut, and step out of it for good.

Space City Movers
  • Our trucks, our fleet, and the full-time background-checked movers riding in them are on our own payroll — we never fill out a crew with day labor pulled off a listing site
  • The figure we write down is the figure you pay — set, signed, and accurate to the dollar before the first box gets lifted
  • The same crew end to end, from the first piece out the old door to the last one set down at the new place
  • Texas (TxDMV) household-goods registration, USDOT/MC authority for interstate runs, and every job carried on full insurance with up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage
  • One point of contact at our Dayton office, with you from that first call straight through to the last box carried inside
What a broker does
  • Farms your move out to whatever crew undercuts the rest in the week you happened to call
  • Lets the total drift up once the truck shows, stacked with line items nobody mentioned the day you signed
  • Sends strangers you have never spoken to through your front door, putting your whole household in the hands of a crew you can't vouch for
  • Leaves it a guess whose insurer covers it the day a TV corner catches a doorframe
  • Parks a call center between you and whoever finally shows up to load, so one simple question turns into a runaround

Questions we hear about this service

My mother is moving into a senior living community that requires a certificate of insurance — can you arrange it?
Yes. Senior communities and retirement campuses around Greater Houston almost always require a COI and a set move-in window, and Brooke in our office handles that paperwork directly with the community's management — the certificate, the elevator reservation, the time slot — before move day, so your family doesn't have to chase it.
We're downsizing from a big family home and don't know what to keep — can you help sort it?
We can, and we never rush it. Leaving a home of thirty or forty years is emotional, so we work at your pace — helping separate what's going to the new place, what's being donated, and what's getting passed to kids and grandkids. We only load what you decide is coming, and the flat price reflects exactly that.
How do you keep the cost predictable on a fixed income?
With a flat written price set before move day, so there's no meter running and no surprise total. You'll know the number when you book, the $105 deposit credits to it, and that's the figure. For smaller moves we can also go hourly — two movers and a truck at $185, three at $255 — whichever genuinely costs you less.
